General Manager

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Lightbox Theatre for the post of a Part-Time General Manager/Producer to secure future funding and lead this upcoming company to the next stage of its growth and development. Working alongside the Artistic Director, the ideal candidate will be an enthusiastic, motivated and personable individual responsible for the company’s fundraising activities. The role will also include some producing duties.

Job Title: General Manager (P/T)
Reporting to: The Artistic Director
Salary: £24,000pa (pro rata)
Term: 9 month fixed term contract
Hours: 1.5 days/12 hours per week
(with scope for flexible working)
Location: Battersea, London
Notice period: One month

Please note this part-time position is for an initial nine month fixed term contract but being an emerging role, we hope that it will become a permanent four-day a week role with extensive producing duties, subject to funding.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Fundraising:

• Create and implement an enterprising 3 year fundraising strategy that secures the company’s operations and enable it to fully realise it’s future activities
• Develop, secure and retain support from Charitable Trusts & Foundations, as well as individuals, the public and corporate donors so that the company reaches its maximum funding potential for core costs while maintaining existing project funding
• Identify appropriate funders and make proposals for core costs and specific projects
• Build and maintain relationships with past and prospective funders
• Maintain an up-to-date funder database
• Monitor grants, ensuring that specific funding conditions are met, and produce reports in line with funders criteria

Producing Duties:

While the primary focus of the role is fundraising, it will incorporate some of the below producing duties from time to time ( which we hope will increase should the role expand):

• Liaise with venues; negotiate and issue contracts with cast and creative teams
• Create and oversee a show production budget in line with project funding
• Devise and implement a marketing and press campaign for individual shows

General and administrative:

• Manage existing databases and administrative systems and create new ones in order to manage fundraising and finance streams efficiently
• Contribute to Lightbox’s online presence via its website and social media
• Oversee the company’s financial activity alongside the Artistic Director; maintain accurate financial records and ensure robust financial management
• Work with the Artistic Director to develop organizational budgets (monitoring performance against them) and present annual accounts to the Board
• Maintain strong links with our partners including Katherine Low Settlement and Wandsworth Council
• Play a full and active role within the life of an emerging arts organisation, being an ambassador for the company’s work and adhering to the company’s values


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Proven track record of successful fundraising in the voluntary/arts sector and experience of managing relationships with funders
• Excellent written, verbal, organisational and interpersonal skills
• Ability to engage and deal with a wide range of people including funders, producers, production teams and community partners
• Highly motivated with the ability to work on your own (particularly as the Artistic Director often works remotely)
• IT skills – working knowledge of Microsoft Office – Word, Outlook, Power Point and Excel
• Proven track record in managing multiple tasks and working to deadlines
• Experience of financial procedures and ability to create/manage project budgets
• A shared passion for Lightbox Theatre’s values, aims and objectives and a desire to make a significant contribution to an organization at an early stage of its development.
